Imagine everything you have ever learned about the ocean  in a split second being put to the test in a life or death situation. A situation you purposely put your self in. Where you try to paddle into massive mountains of rushing water. One wrong decision could put you under a 50 foot wave  getting violently thrashed and dragged deeper and deeper.  You find your self discovering survival instincts you had no idea were in your possession.  Fighting for your life to get back to the surface.... Just so you can go back and do it again. Where the results could be severe as death, and the reward......    Well the reward is simply the thrill of the ride.

Maverick's  12 is a documentary of this years alternates,  trying as hard as they can to get invited into the Maverick's Contest.  Never before has a new crew of young men with such out standing ability come crashing into the Mavericks scene.  The Maverick's Event is an elite invitational that is very hard to get into. Those already in the contest do not readily give up their places to new guys.  But don't tell that to this crew of party crashers, because the word NO is not in their vocabulary. These guys will stop at nothing to break in.   Some of these guys have won other big wave events, won XXL Awards, and even set world records. These are not your average Johnny-come-latelies. They are very established big wave surfers trying to make their mark in the Biggest Big Wave Contest in the world, The Maverick Contest. Last year was with no doubt the biggest waves ever surfed in a surf contest in the history of our sport, EVER!

This year, the 24 competitors in the Maverick's Contest are voting on, the next batch of guys. Last years results will draw the line in the sand on who is "IN" and who is "OUT". The bottom 11 from last years results will be placed on the chopping block. And they will choose, who is still worthy, and who is to be replaced. Replaced that is, by a few good men from the Mavericks 12. Not everyone of the Maverick's 12 will be invited, so there will definitely be some drama. And once the voting is over, then the games begin. Find out who your favorite Maverick 12 is. Follow them along a path of failures and successes. Find out who really has what it takes to be a Mavericks competitor,  and others that need to work on their sack size. And when the "Big Day" comes and the best big wave riders in the world,  all meet up on the beach for the Mavericks Contest. Find out who has the skill and the guts to take down the Legends of Mavericks.

This is the first episode of what is going to be a series, where we will  follow the Mavericks 12 from opening day at Mavericks, to chasing giant swells from Hawaii, Todos, Cortes Banks and back to Mavericks. Through the voting stages (I like to call "The Chopping Block"), all the way to THE BIG DAY  of the Mavericks Event.  When you combine the unfiltered drama of big wave surfing with the personal dramas of "making the cut....or not."

This will be the most compelling surf epic ever experienced- by participants AND viewers. Strap on your seat belts kids, this is going to be one hell of a ride!!!!
